Job Overview/Summary:

Strategy Engineering is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Department Manager to lead our Instrumentation and Controls team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing engineering deliverables, performing detailed calculations, specifying industry-standard instrumentation, and providing expert technical leadership and guidance for various projects within the oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for engineering deliverables such as instrument datasheets, cable schedules, instrument indexes, I/O lists, SAFE charts, cause & effect charts, and design drawings including PLC panel layout drawings, junction box layouts, wiring diagrams, and installation details.

  • Perform sizing calculations using appropriate software for control valves, relief valves, orifice meters, blanket and make-up gas pressure regulators, tanks thief hatches, and emergency pressure/vacuum relief valves.

  • Specify common industry instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters and gauges.

  • Review and provide input to P&IDs from an instrumentation and controls perspective.

  • Lead design and drafting teams when required to produce instrumentation drawings such as instrument wiring diagrams, instrument installation details, junction box, and PLC panel layout drawings and Bill of Materials (B.O.M.).

  • Review and comment on vendor packages to ensure compliance with project standards and expectations.

  • Generate facility control narrative documents for projects requiring such deliverables.

  • Attend, participate, and provide insight during control system related factory acceptance tests as required.

  • Attend, participate and provide insight during HAZOP reviews as required.

  • Provide technical bid evaluations for projects that require such a level of analysis.

  • Identify out-of-scope activities and interface with the management team prior to commencing work on such activities.

  • Provide man-hour estimates for potential and future projects.

  • Provide guidance to other engineers and designers on multiple projects being worked simultaneously.

Job requirements

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least 60 months (5 years) of experience in the job offered or a related position.

  • Ability to supervise two Instrument and Controls Engineers.

  • Incidental travel may be required within the United States and Gulf of Mexico.
